ABOUT

Andrew (Andy) York was born in Evansville, Indiana  in 1980. He has studied music for the majority of his life, and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Vocal Music Performance and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Choral and General Music Education.

His conducting experience ranges from choral to instrumental ensembles.

Andy's love of conducting began when he was assistant drum major for the Gibson Southern Marching Titans, his high school marching band, and continued when he was given the opportunity to act as student choral director at the age of sixteen with the Gibson Southern High School Choir. The choir was recognized for outstanding performances at both the Gibson County Spring Chorale and Music In The Parks under his direction in 1997. He continued conducting as drum major for the GSHS Marching Titans in the 1997/ 1998 season.

As a composer, Andy's music draws inspiration from a myriad of sources including film music, modern classical music, as well as Medieval and Romantic composers. He has also had the pleasure of working with noted poet and lyricist Tony Silvestri. His setting of Mr. Silvestri's Rosa Morienda, is currently being rehearsed and considered for repertoire inclusion with choirs in Florida, Minnesota and other places in the United States. His composition Kyrie for unaccompanied SATB choir, was premiered 27, September 2015 in the Berliner Dom, by the incomparible English Choir Berlin, and by the Terre Haute South High School Concert Choir in October 2015 in Terre, Haute, IN. His arrangement of Shenandoah will be featured in concert, along with Kyrie in Berlin in May 2016. Andy also has a new piece Concerto for Violin and Piano that will be premiered in Illinois end of April 2016, and his latest setting of Ave Maria composed for The Uckermärkischer Kammerchor will be premiered during their 2016 concert season.

Currently located outside of Berlin Germany, Andy serves as the founder and conductor of Vox Nova, a community choir which was founded in October of 2015, is a member of the English Choir Berlin under the direction of Ms. Kathy Bird, and has been featured as a guest singer and composer for The Uckermärkischer Kammerchor and The Uckermärkischer Konzertchor, both under the direction of Mr. Jürgen Bischof.

Andy's music is currently self published, however he is searching for an official publisher. Andy is also available and open for commissions and guest conducting spots.
